It is used to refine the grains of silicon in the alloy, improve the mechanical capacity of the alloy and provide stability in re-melting. Titanium additions often continue to be favored in case where the exclusion of hard intermetallic particles is considered to be paramount such as foil stock, lithographic sheet and automobile trim.
